In the north of the island, in the very heart of St. John, proudly stands L’Auberge Du Nord Pub and Restaurant. Originally a private residence and part of a larger estate, constructed at the end of the 17th century, the initials of its first inhabitants can still be seen carved above the fireplace in what is now the pool room. As time passed, the house and surrounding fields transformed into a working farm, changing hands over generations, before becoming a public house and lodging house in the late 1940s.
